News Health: Look Further Ahead

Read time: 2 minutes

Happy Sunday,

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.

Romans 8:18

Look further ahead.
I’m a sinner. (I know some of you already know this. I’ve read your email replies.) Every day, I think the wrong things, say the wrong things, do the wrong things… Sometimes I sin intentionally and consciously, other times I sin without even meaning to—I’m just that good at it.

I joke, but seriously, it sucks. And it’s exhausting.

Every minute, we deal with the consequences of our bad decisions—some made earlier that day, some decades ago. Consequences like relationships being strained or broken, a life that’s not what we expected, guilt, regret, and shame. And on top of that, we deal with the consequences of bad decisions other people made as well. Just consider all the children stuck in the middle of conflicts they didn’t start and don’t remotely understand—forced to choose between two bad options because all the good options only exist in an alternate universe.

Well, Christianity makes a pretty amazing claim: that “alternate universe” is real.

In Heaven, we will have true freedom. Not the ability to do absolutely anything, but the inability to do anything we might ever possibly regret. Imagine that: only good, fruitful, joyful decisions!

And everyone will be incapable of sin. Instead of feeling the weight of humanity’s sin compounding for millennia, we’ll experience the never-ending joy of engaging and building relationships with sinless people and Jesus Christ Himself. And that joy will last forever.

If you’re particularly exhausted by your own sin (or the sins of others) today, dreading the future because of it… just look further ahead. If you’re in Christ, your future is amazing. Guaranteed.

Recommended: I frequently advocate for simply spending more time with Jesus, focusing on quantity time (quality will follow). One way I do that is with Dwell, the best audio Bible app I've found.
